US 281 expansion - the road behind, the road ahead (for 2018)

Can you believe we are already nearing the end of January 2018? As we get acquainted with the new year and all that it has in store, let’s take a look back to see what we accomplished in 2017 on the US 281 expansion between Loop 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway.
Construction began on phase I during the summer of 2017 and motorists began seeing construction activities right away, including:

  • Construction of frontage road bridges at Mud Creek
  • Completion of bridge support columns and foundations for two of the four direct connectors to Loop 1604
  • Start of construction for retaining walls between Sonterra Boulevard and Redland Road

We do not expect to slow down this year. We should be finished with our first stage of work by the end of the year. In order to get there we will:
  • Construct the new frontage roads outside the existing US 281 travel lanes
  • Work on all four direct connectors
  • Utility adjustments – so many utility adjustments!
  • Drainage work
  • Install sound walls, bridges and retaining walls where planned
  • Construct the sidewalk

Our next stage is scheduled to start late 2018 and will switch traffic to the newly constructed frontage roads. This will allow crews to build out the new express lanes.
By breaking construction into these two stages we can minimize traffic impacts and maintain the same level of service you now enjoy. Even when traffic is moved to the frontage roads we will maintain the superstreet configuration.
The construction team is dedicated to mitigating traffic, access and neighborhood impacts as much as possible. To continue to stay up-to-date on construction activities and lane closures sign up to receive email notifications here.

I-10 – Fair Oaks Ranch
  • Current until Friday, February 23. Westbound frontage road at Old Fredericksburg Road. All lanes will close while crews replace drain structures. Traffic will follow the signed detour route, including a temporary route under the new overpass at Old Fredericksburg, to reach its destination.
I-10 – Leon Springs
  • Monday, January 29 at 9 p.m. until Tuesday, January 30 at 5 a.m. Eastbound frontage road between Camp Bullis and La Cantera Parkway. Alternating lanes will close while crews mark the pavement.
  • Monday, January 29-Friday, February 2. 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. Eastbound frontage road between Ralph Fair and Boerne Stage roads. The left lane will close while trucks enter and exit the highway.
  • Tuesday, January 30-Thursday, February 1. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Main lanes, both directions, between Dominion Drive and Ralph Fair Road. The right lane will close while crews do bridge work at Boerne Stage Road.

I-35 – Schertz
  • Current and continuous until October 2018. Frontage roads, both directions, at FM 1103. The right lane will close while crews replace the FM 1103 overpass bridge.

  • Current until Friday, February 2. 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. Northbound main lanes at Binz-Engleman Road. The right lane will close while crews do concrete work.
  • Thursday, February 1 at 9 p.m. until Friday, February 2 at 5 a.m. Main lanes, both directions, at New Braunfels Avenue. All lanes will close while crews do overhead electric line work. Traffic will exit New Braunfels Avenue, move through the intersection and re-enter the main lanes. Traffic at New Braunfels Avenue will be right-turn only in all directions (no traffic will be on the New Braunfels Avenue bridge itself).
  • Friday, February 2 at 9 p.m. until Monday, February 5 at 5 a.m. Main lanes, both directions, at New Braunfels Avenue. All lanes will close while crews set bridge support beams overhead. Traffic will exit New Braunfels Avenue, move through the intersection and re-enter the main lanes. Traffic at New Braunfels Avenue will be right-turn only in all directions (no traffic will be on the New Braunfels Avenue bridge itself).
I-37 – Downtown San Antonio
  • Current and continuous until March 2018 at 9 a.m. Northbound exit ramp to Florida and Carolina avenues (exit 140A). The ramp will close while crews rebuild the slope near the exit. Traffic will exit Cesar Chavez (exit 140B) and turn around to reach its destination.
I-410 – West San Antonio
  • Current until Wednesday, January 31. 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Main lanes, both directions between US 90 and Marbach. All lanes will close as needed while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road and use the next available entrance ramp to reach its destination. This closure will not take place at the same time as the closure on US Hwy 90.
  • Current and continuous until December 2018. Turnarounds, both directions, at Marbach Road. The turnarounds will remain closed while crews construct the new Marbach overpass bridge. Traffic will use the signalized intersection.
I-410 – Northwest San Antonio
  • Current until Friday, March 2. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Southbound frontage road at Hwy 151. All lanes will close while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will take the westbound frontage road of Hwy 151 to Ingram Road, turn around and use the eastbound frontage road to return to I-410 and reach its destination. This closure will not take place Friday or Saturday nights.
  • Current until Friday, March 2. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Northbound main lanes between Hwy 151 and Military Drive. The two left lanes will close while crews work on the center median barrier.
  • Friday, February 2 at 9 p.m. until Monday, February 5 at 5 a.m. Main lanes, both directions, at Hwy 151. All lanes will close while crews set steel support beams. Traffic will exit Hwy 151, continue through the intersection and re-enter the highway at the next available ramp.

  • Tuesday, January 30-Thursday, February 1. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Northbound main lanes between Donella Drive and Sonterra Boulevard. The two right lanes will close while crews work on bridge barrier. This closure includes the northbound exit to Sonterra Boulevard. Traffic will use the Frontage Road exit to reach its destination.
Loop 1604 – North San Antonio
  • Monday, January 29 at 9 p.m. until Tuesday, January 30 at 5 a.m. Southbound main lanes between Medio Creek and Dove Canyon. The right lane will close while crews restripe the road.

  • Monday-Wednesday, January 29-31. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. FM 1516, both directions, between Avenue D and Legion Street. All lanes will close while crews install a water line. Traffic will follow the posted detour.
Other roads – Helotes
  • Current until Wednesday, January 31. 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. FM 1560, both directions, between Alta Loma and Saltillo Flat. Alternating lanes will close while crews do road work. Traffic will be controlled by a flagger during this closure.
  • Current until Wednesday, January 31. 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. Bandera Road, both directions, at Circle A Trail. Alternating lanes will close while crews do road work.
  • Current until Tuesday, May 1 at noon. Northbound Bandera Road at FM 1560. The left turn lane will close while crews do road work. No left turns will be permitted. Traffic will continue to the next intersection and turn around to reach its destination.
Other roads – Boerne
  • Wednesday, January 31-Friday, February 2. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Scenic Loop Road, both directions, at I-10. All lanes will close while crews do road work. Traffic turn east on the frontage roads and turn around at Balcones Creek to reach its destination.

  • Tuesday-Thursday, February 13-15. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Boerne Stage Road, both directions, at I-10. All lanes will close while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will follow posted detour routes.
Other roads – Northwest San Antonio
  • Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m. until Monday, February 12 at 5 a.m. Emory Peak, both directions, at Loop 1604. Alternating lanes will close while crews reconstruct the intersection. Two-way traffic will still have access during this work.

All major closures OFF for this weekend

We got word yesterday some closures planned for this weekend have been pushed while a few others have been added to the slate. Buckle up and we'll get straight to the point.

Called off ... for now:
I-35 at New Braunfels Avenue. We had planned a full closure of the I-35 main lanes this weekend. We've run into a scheduling issue and won't be able to get the bridge support beams on site. If we don't have beams, we can't set them - which means we won't need to close the highway. We are told by our contractor, CRG Inc., the beams will be on site and ready to be set Feb. 2-5.
Boerne Stage Road at I-10 (Leon Springs). We had nightly closures of Boerne Stage Road at I-10 scheduled beginning the night of Tuesday, January 30. This has been pushed; we do not yet have a new date. Expect to see that posted in an upcoming lane closures report.
I-410 at Hwy 151. Last weekend we had some frontage road closures to set steel support beams to finish the framework for the southbound I-410 connector to westbound Hwy 151. We were planning on this weekend being the first of three consecutive weekends with closures to install steel support beams for the eastbound Hwy 151 connector to northbound I-410. The first two weekends the main lanes of I-410 will be completely closed at Hwy 151. The detour is really straightforward: exit Hwy 151, follow the frontage road and re-enter at the next available ramp. We'll have police officers at intersections to keep folks moving.
UPDATE: So ... right at 5 p.m. this evening (Thursday) we got word from Williams Brothers Construction the 410-151 closure will NOT be happening this weekend as planned. Permit applications for the trucks hauling the oversized steel beams had not been filed on time, so the beams won't be on site. As with the I-35 at New Braunfels Ave situation we cannot set a beam we do not have.
Which means ... we really don't have any major closures set for this weekend. But next weekend? That'll be a different story.

In the future:
Closures at the intersection of I-410 and Hwy 151 will happen, weather permitting, the first three weekends of February.
We also expect an intersection closure of the eastbound frontage road of US Hwy 90 at northbound Loop 1604 February 2-4. Immediately following that work the eastbound main lanes of US 90 will close at Lp 1604 for some overhead bridge work.
And don't forget about that planned closure we talked about above of I-35 at New Braunfels next weekend. That one, we're fairly sure, is absolutely going to happen.

Mail Bag: Traffic signals, Spring Branch Post Office, a whoopsie and more.

This is somewhat random, but I am curious how TxDOT decides whether a new traffic signal will have metal arms or a cable to hold up traffic lights.
For example, the new light at SH 46 and FM 758 in New Braunfels utilizes cables, while the recent install less than a mile up the road at Avery has metal arms. I notice similar discrepancies at FM 1101 and FM 306. I find the metal arms more attractive, but is there a huge difference in installation and maintenance costs? Any consideration for consistency along the same road or within a city?

You didn't ask the question outright but others may ask; we posted before on how we determine when or where to install a signal. If you've not read it yet, John, you may find in it an interesting (hopefully) read to set the foundation of a conversation on signal installation.
Down to your actual questions. Determination between use of span wires or mast arms most often boils down to engineer discretion. They have a number of options they can use for a number of reasons. More often than not it boils down to money, though. Using span wires saves us about 20 percent over the mast arms and this is an easy way we're able to trim costs to keep a project under budget.
Existing electrical wiring plays a factor in the design; if the wires are in the air at a particular location it's highly unlikely we'll use mast arms. The last major factor is the plan for future development. If we know one of the intersecting streets is to be expanded in the relatively near future we may choose the span wires. This helps during construction and makes arranging the intersection a lot simpler for our contractors.
Hopefully that helps!


With all of the major construction taking place on I-10 and Foster Road area, many drivers (including me) are starting to avoid the congestion on I-10 by taking FM 1346 to I-410. I live in St Hedwig and travel FM 1346 to 410 daily and then continue my drive to the NW side of town for work. Since more traffic has decided to go FM 1346, this has created a serious bottleneck, sometimes a mile long of cars waiting to go through an old 4 way stop design (flashing yellow light). What puzzles me is that if I turn on Foster Road to head back towards I-10, there is presently a traffic light at a non busy intersection of an industrial complex. Do you have any immediate plans to put a traffic light at this busy intersection to help ease some of the congestion that exists daily, and not to mention the safety factor of all this as well? There is also a new beginning stage of a multi-home subdivision at that intersection. Please let me know, thank you.

It sounds like a temporary situation has been developed at that intersection resulting from folks seeking ways around a construction project, and we would need to be sure that situation won't disappear when the project on I-10 finishes and traffic returns to its old pattern.
As we mentioned above we have strict requirements dictating when and where we install signals.
The signal on Foster Road at Cal Turner is not on a state-maintained road. While local municipalities typically turn to our Texas Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices for guidance, that isn't always the case. You'll have to reach out to Bexar County or the city of San Antonio to determine what factors played into approval of that signal.
We've added the intersection of FM 1346 and Foster Road to our list of intersections needing a warrant study - we'll see what the actual data looks like. If a signal is indeed warranted we'll install it.


Any update when 281 north bound lanes at the Spring Branch Post Office will start up to eliminate the bypass around the Spring Branch Post Office?

As of the moment we're writing this answer we expect to receive bids on this project in March (yes, this year) and should be underway with construction by mid-summer. The nearly $800,000 project should last no more than a year.


A few days ago a question was posted regarding the I-35 project and the concern about the left lane on northbound 35 before Walzem. The answer given was that with the work over the weekend the project should be completed. The northbound lanes still have the issue where the left lane disappears at Walzem. There appears to be room for the lane to continue but it essentially ends. Is this going to be the final project? Thank you for your time.

You're absolutely right. We were operating on old information here in our public information office and the work we had on our schedules didn't end up happening. We are told it will happen within the next month and a half, opening up that lane that's sorely needed and giving drivers the final configuration they've been waiting about four years to enjoy.


Why was the exit ramp from Loop 1604 west to Gold Canyon closed and removed during the direct connect project?

That was about safety and redundancy more than anything. Bear with us here.
We'll start with a look at the layout of Loop 1604 between Gold Canyon and Redland Road. At that stretch there are three lanes - two normal through lanes and an auxiliary lane at the far right of the road.
That auxiliary lane ties the entrance ramp from Redland to the exit ramp to US 281. Adding an extra ramp would add another conflicting traffic pattern to an area already laden with three directions of traffic.
Hopefully that makes sense. If not ... let us know and we'll give it another go.


Has there been any mention of possibly opening sections of the new I-10 lane expansion between the RIM and Ralph Fair as they're completed? Or will the lanes open once the entire project is completed?

Glad you asked. The plan here is to open the lanes as they're finished - so an incremental opening. This means about halfway through the project we'll have three lanes in each direction - all general purpose, open to everyone.
At the end of the project we'll open up that HOV lane in each direction, making I-10 four lanes each direction between Ralph Fair Road and Loop 1604.
It seemed like a good idea to us at the time, and we are going to work hard to ensure it goes well in practice.
By the way, that first incremental gift is still about a year away from happening ... but you'll see our crews working to prepare the overpasses for expansion over the next several weeks.


When is FM 1376 in Kendall county repaired and ditches along shoulders repaired. With the increase in traffic of large vechiles moving over is not an option; the washouts would cause blow outs.

Yes, we DO have a closure this weekend

We made a mistake.
We were asked by multiple media outlets if Winter Storm Inga pushed planned work at all and we identified all planned closures for this weekend as work that has been pushed.
We were incorrect. Not all work is delayed.
Williams Brothers' plan to set steel support beams to make the southbound I-410 connector to westbound Hwy 151 is on like Donkey Kong this weekend. Expect to see the closure in place around 9 p.m. Friday and we'll be off the road by 5 a.m. Monday.
This means some pretty major closures if you're working or playing or shopping around these parts on the city's northwest side. The westbound frontage road of Hwy 151 and the southbound frontage road of I-410 will both close at the intersection (along with their accompanying turnarounds) for the weekend. Traffic on each frontage road will turn right at the intersection and turn around to return to the intersection and continue as planned.
Here's what we mean:
Other planned work this weekend - such as the CRG plan to set bridge support beams for the New Braunfels Avenue bridge over I-35 - has indeed been pushed, making this closure at the 410-151 interchange the only big'un to get the go-ahead this weekend. The closure of I-35 for those New Braunfels Avenue beams will happen January 26-29.
For those wondering, yes we will need more weekend closures at the 151-410 interchange. And the interchange of I-410 and US 90, for that matter. These closures will be announced in coming weeks as they are scheduled. Expect overnight closures at 151-410 to impact the late-night crowd for the next week or two, though.
As for the overall completion date of the 151-410 interchange ... we're looking at having things wrapped up this fall.

I-410 – West San Antonio
  • Current until Wednesday, January 31. 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Main lanes, both directions between US 90 and Marbach. All lanes will close as needed while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road and use the next available entrance ramp to reach its destination. This closure will not take place at the same time as the closure on US Hwy 90.
  • Current until December 2018. Turnarounds, both directions, at Marbach Road. The turnarounds will remain closed while crews construct the new Marbach overpass bridge. Traffic will use the signalized intersection.
I-410 – Northwest San Antonio
  • Friday, January 19 at 9 p.m. until Monday, January 22 at 5 a.m. Southbound frontage road at Hwy 151. All lanes will close while crews hang steel bridge support beams overhead. Traffic will go west on the westbound frontage road of Hwy 151, turn around at Ingram Road and return to I-410 to continue on to their destination. Please be aware of the simultaneous closure of the Hwy 151 westbound frontage road at I-410 using a similar path as a detour route.
U.S. Hwy 90 – West San Antonio

Private entities and lane closures

Did you know private companies can regulate traffic on state-maintained roads?

Yup - well, sort of.

When organizations contribute large volumes of traffic to the roadway over concentrated timeframes they often elect to assist with traffic control. They have a variety of reasons, into which we will not delve, for tackling the dilemma. Most groups do it pretty darned well, too.

They do this by contracting licensed police officers with authority to control traffic or limit access to the public right-of-way.

You'll see this happen on Sundays near the largest churches in the area. You'll see it weekday mornings or evenings near some of our region's largest employers.

You'll see it happen after every Spurs win. We'd say it happens during losses, but we're not confident there are any (seriously, only two home losses this season?).

These closures all use licensed police officers contracted by the private organization. They're all off-duty but still have the necessary authority to run traffic control without getting any permits through our offices. Most organizations do it really well.

So why bring this up?

One of these closures has stirred up a bit of a hornet's nest with a community on the far west side of Bexar County. These folks use Hwy 211 from FM 1957 to US Hwy 90 and are often stopped by officers controlling traffic into and out of the new Microsoft campus. Those submitting complaints allege these officers are stopping vehicles on Hwy 211 for a single car without regard to the dominant movement. Southbound traffic is apparently backing up all the way to Potranco Road.

We are, as a courtesy to those who've written or called us, reaching out to Microsoft to request they review their traffic control plan. We are also asking the officers use more prudence. That said, these officers hold the authority to do what they are doing and we cannot remove them.

The Citibank campus - across the street from where Microsoft is now building - already brings more than 1,000 employees to this location each day. The officers working traffic control are in place to help the 300-400 construction employees currently on site.
Once that Microsoft building - and the residential development nearby - is done, you should see a significant need for a new traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy 211 and Lambda Drive. Development of this signal is being done by the developer of the Hidden Canyons subdivision and is already underway (Citibank and Microsoft, we hear, are pitching in as well). We don't have a timeline on this signal because it's a private development. We will inspect the work once it's complete but do not control the production schedule.

Officers will likely continue to control traffic at both driveway locations until the signal is operational.

Why a signal here and not at other locations with officers directing traffic for private organizations? For starters, the increased development along Lambda Drive will warrant the signal. It's also being paid for by the private developer and not through tax dollars.

We are grateful, as an agency, to the organizations who responsibly contract licensed professionals to direct traffic during those peak-volume periods. This practice improves safety - even if it means a slightly slower commute for some - and contributes to an overall stronger transportation system.

Mail bag: A few questions from 2017 we've not yet answered

Thanks for answering my previous question regarding the US 281 NBFR lane closure. I was referring to pages 211 and 216 of the TCP located here.
I'm concerned that we (TxDOT and taxpayers) may not be getting what we've paid for (avoiding the lane closure). It's possible that plans have changed or the contractor has negotiated something with the PE to reduce the construction time.

You'll note the general notes of the plans allow closures at the discretion of the project engineer. This is designed to afford our project staff the room to appropriately negotiate with the contractor and, yes, speed up the work a bit.

Why has the closure of the WBFR at Old Fredericksburg been pushed back a month? Surely a couple days of rain and brief snowfall can't result in a whole month delay.

You're right - the rain and snowfall aren't the only contributors here (but are indeed relevant). The short end of it is we had a few issues with the retaining walls at the location and production rates haven't been as projected. As of today we're hoping to have it reopened by the end of February.

I realize there are all kinds of road construction projects going on that are supposed to improve the 410 to 151 to Military area, but I guess I don't understand the plans.
Right now, the exit from 410 to 151 has been reconfigured and it's very congested to move over into the right most lane to exit 410 there. Then it's very difficult and congested most days when trying to get over to the right on the access road and then very difficult to get over to the left to get in line to enter 151. Will any of the plans ease this part of the congestion? It feels very unsafe IMO the way it is now.

Kimbie, what you're driving through right now is a temporary condition as the project continues to move forward.

When will I-37 north exit 140A open? Why was it closed? Nothing has been happening since closure.

Right now the goal is the end of March. We had an erosion issue (engineers call it a "slope failure") to shore up and discovered some challenges we hadn't anticipated. After re-thinking our plan of attack for the issue and with the holidays now behind us, crews should be moving again.

Question regarding the 410/35 NE project. On 410/35 North when you are approaching the bridge over Walzem, the left lane currently disappears.
This is a major bottleneck every afternoon. Is this permanent and if not, when will it be open? Everyday people "run" that fast lane all the way to the end and cut off the people who actually paid attention to the signage.

Is there any word on when they will do the pour for the new bridge over I-10 between Fair Oaks Ranch Parkway and Tarpon Dr.?

We did this last weekend! Expect overnight closures during upcoming weeks to pour the bridge rails. Those closures will be posted in our weekly closures post.

As per your Sept 15 update on the I10 project between Ralph Fair & fair Oaks Ranch, it is stated that this project is to be completed by late Spring 2018. It is now January and there appears to be no work yet on most of the on/off ramps. The closure on the Frontage Road by Old Fred has gone past the original schedule. What is the current completion date for this whole project between Ralph fair and Fair Oaks ranch?

At the moment we're looking at mid-summer. Production rates have slowed over the last six months from the torrid pace Sundt had at the start of the project, but that earlier pace was strong enough to give them a cushion.
The earlier assessment of late spring was based on that faster pace. Sundt is working on a number of tasks on the job at the moment - including working on those new ramps you referenced - and Sundt is working on making up some of their lost time.
Right now, given the loss of production over the winter months, we're looking at mid-summer for substantial completion.

New Year ... new updates on the I-10 East project

It sure has been cold outside ... we're hoping this post comes with warmth of good news to start 2018 for those driving the I-10 corridor east of town.

Here’s a quick project recap
The $63.8 million I-10 East project started fall 2016 and is expected to wrap-up mid-2019. Texas Sterling Construction is doing the heavy lifting while CEC does the project management and inspection. Work include a new overpass bridge at Woodlake Parkway, several intersection upgrades (including some new signals), reconfiguration of entrance and exit ramps and conversion of the frontage roads. You can read all the details about the project here.

So what’s the GOOD news?
Today westbound traffic will move onto the new Woodlake Overpass at 10:00 a.m. Lane shifts on the westbound side currently in place will be removed to allow traffic access to the new westbound lanes.
Yes, that's only the westbound side.
We know you’re probably wondering about the eastbound lanes; crews will turn focus to the eastbound bridge, which should open before summer.

One-way frontage roads
One of our big project milestones of 2017 was getting the frontage roads converted to one-way. We hope by now drivers have acclimated to the one-way frontage roads between Foster and Greytown roads. The one-way conversion was crucial to improve safety with the continued development of the corridor.
The conversion was accelerated by eight months to speed up delivery of the project. We know the transition hasn't been perfect for everyone, but Texas Sterling put a temporary turnaround at 1516 to support flowing traffic that should be helping. Reconfigured ramps are coming in 2018 to push the traffic build-up onto the frontage roads and away from the main lanes.

I-35 – Schertz
  • Current until October 2018. Frontage roads, both directions, at FM 1103. The right lane will close while crews replace the FM 1103 overpass bridge.
I-35 – East San Antonio
  • Friday, January 19 at 10 p.m. until Monday, January 22 at 5 a.m. Main lanes, both directions, at New Braunfels Avenue. All lanes will close while crews set bridge support beams overhead. Traffic will exit New Braunfels Avenue, move through the intersection and re-enter the main lanes. Traffic at New Braunfels Avenue will be right-turn only in all directions (no traffic will be on the New Braunfels Avenue bridge itself). *This closure was pushed from Jan 5-8
I-37 – Downtown San Antonio
  • Current and continuous until March 2018 at 9 a.m. Northbound exit ramp to Florida and Carolina avenues (exit 140A). The ramp will close while crews rebuild the slope near the exit. Traffic will exit Cesar Chavez (exit 140B) and turn around to reach its destination.
I-410 – West San Antonio
  • Current until December 2018. Turnarounds, both directions, at Marbach Road. The turnarounds will remain closed while crews construct the new Marbach overpass bridge. Traffic will use the signalized intersection.
  • Tuesday-Friday, January 2-5. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. South-to-north turnaround at Hwy 151. The turnaround will close while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will use the signalized intersection to make the turnaround.
  • Tuesday-Friday, January 2-5. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Southbound frontage road between Culebra Road and Military Drive. All lanes will close while crews do bridge work. Traffic will enter the main lanes after Culebra Road and re-exit prior to Military Drive.
  • Tuesday-Friday, January 2-5. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Southbound main lanes between Culebra Road and Military Drive. The right lane will close while crews do bridge work.
  • Sunday-Friday, January 7-12. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Southbound frontage road between Culebra Road and Military Drive. All lanes will close while crews do bridge work. Traffic will enter the main lanes after Culebra Road and re-exit prior to Military Drive.
  • Sunday-Friday, January 7-12. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Southbound main lanes between Culebra Road and Military Drive. The right lane will close while crews do bridge work.
U.S. Hwy 90 – West San Antonio
  • Wednesday, January 3 until Sunday, January 14. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Main lanes, both directions, at Loop 1604 .All lanes will close while crews set bridge support beams overhead. Traffic will exit U.S. 90, pass through the intersection and re-enter the highway.
Texas Hwy 151
  • Tuesday-Thursday, January 2-4. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. Westbound main lanes between Potranco Road and Hunt Lane. The right lane will close while crews move barrier.
  • Tuesday-Friday, January 2-5. 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly. East-to-west turnaround at I-410. The turnaround will close while crews do overhead bridge work. Traffic will use the intersection to make the turnaround.
Loop 1604 – Northwest San Antonio
  • Current until Friday, January 26. North-to-south turnaround at Bandera Road. The turnaround will remain closed while crews do road work. Traffic will use the signalized intersection to turn around.
Other roads – Converse
  • Tuesday-Thursday, January 2-4. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. FM 1516, both directions, between Avenue E and Avenue D. All lanes will close while crews install a water line. Traffic will use Station Street to reach its destination.
  • Thursday-Friday, January 4-5. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. FM 1516, both directions, at Legion Street. Alternating lanes will close while crews put in water lines.
