Update on US 281 and Loop 1604

Demolition of  the existing retaining wall for this weekend will include closing the center and right lane of northbound US 281 from Donella entrance ramp to Sonterra Blvd. entrance ramp (includes closing the Sonterra Blvd. exit ramp) from Saturday (August 25, 2018) at 3 a.m. to Monday (August 27, 2018) at 5 a.m. Traffic to use the frontage road exit ramp. Note that only one lane will remain open.

Also, during the Monday morning commute, traffic will notice a change in lane configuration on the westbound frontage road - from the US 281 north exit ramp to US 281 northbound frontage road - to allow us to construct a bridge structure that spans the road in a safe manner. This stretch of roadway will take a reduction in the number of lanes from 3 lanes to 2. This bridge work is anticipated to be complete in one month. At this time, roadway will revert to its original configuration.

Please note that the schedule provided is weather permitting.

You can receive information on lane closures straight to your e-mail inbox by registering here (link to http://eepurl.com/cXz2kr). Daily updates are sent out daily for the full closures.

There will be a major closure for this Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. that will require full closures for both US 281 and Loop 1604 frontage roads.

For most of the working shift, crews will require a full closure along southbound frontage road and, then early afternoon, the crews will move onto the westbound frontage road. See details for closures below.

US 281 southbound frontage road from the Sonterra Boulevard entrance ramp to the westbound frontage road of Loop 1604 that includes the following detour: taking the Sonterra Boulevard entrance ramp, using Donella Drive exit ramp, taking the Donella Drive turnaround and taking a left onto the westbound frontage road.

What is happening at Fair Oaks Parkway???

Here's the scoop..as you are aware, the intersection at Fair Oaks Parkway at I-10 is not in its final configuration but once complete, many of the concerns we have heard will be addressed.

As of now, motorists will not be using the current right turn from the westbound frontage road to go onto Fair Oaks Parkway, but motorists will have their own designated right turn lane. Lanes will be 12' wide when completed which is the same width as the mainlanes. The final overlay starts today. We just ask for a little patience while we get through the final leg of the project.

Also, the turning movement on the north side of the interstate will be eliminated with the next project that has already let. The next project, which is anticipated to begin this fall, will convert the frontage roads from Fair Oaks Parkway to Scenic Loop to one-way. However, the anticipated lane shift will allow for traffic to make the left turn onto Fair Oaks Parkway.

Update on Loop 1604 construction

If you hadn't noticed by now, there is quite a bit of construction on the northwest side of Loop 1604. Here's an update on some changes and closures you need to know about. We apologize for the inconvenience. We understand that no one likes construction. But we are trying our best to get these projects completed and traffic flowing. We appreciate your patience greatly!

Loop 1604 - Culebra Road to Potranco Road
If you are not a follower of TxDOTSanAntonio on Twitter you missed a tour of a traffic switch scheduled for this Saturday between 6 a.m. and 12 noon on Loop 1604 SB between Culebra Road and Military Drive. Have no fear, you can check out the video here.

Loop 1604 - Potranco Road to US 90
Tonight we do have a full mainlane closure at the interchange of Loop 1604 at US 90 for a deck pour for the southbound/eastbound direct connector. The closure starts at 9 p.m. and will wrap up by 5 a.m. DETOUR: Northbound traffic will have take a right onto the eastbound frontage road and then enter US 90 eastbound mainlanes; continue on US 90 to the Military Drive exit and take the turnaround and re-enter the US 90 westbound mainlanes and exit Loop 1604 and take a right onto the Loop 1604 northbound mainlanes.

Loop 1604 at SH 16 (Bandera Road)
The westbound frontage road turnaround will be closed starting on Monday, August 6th at 5 a.m.  This closure will be approximately 4 months in duration. The turnaround is being closed to allow for modification of the turnaround as part of the current project that will provide intersection operational improvements at this busy intersection by utilizing an innovative traffic engineering solution described as Displaced Left Turns (DLT). In a DLT, left turn traffic shifts to the left side of the road. Left turns are “displaced” at a new crossover signal prior to the frontage road intersection.

Landa Street at Loop 337 Closure

TxDOT and its contractor Hunter Industries will close the intersection of Landa Street at Loop 337 in New Braunfels to place pre-cast bents for the bridge over Landa Street starting tonight at 9 p.m. until Friday morning at 5 a.m.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closure. TxDOT asks the traveling public to adhere to construction signage and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.

The $43.3 million project consists of expanding Loop 337 to a four-lane divided highway between Hillcrest Drive and Altgelt Lane and will be completed by the end of 2021.
