As summer goes into full swing in New Braunfels (hooray for weekend tubing down the river!), our 4-year project to widen Loop 337 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway continues to progress. This project will increase driver and pedestrian safety on the 6.7-mile stretch between I-35 and Hillcrest Drive and keep traffic flowing in our expanding city. We want you to be able to navigate your summer plans safely, so here’s what is happening now.
We’re making steady progress on the new bridges that are part of the Loop 337 widening. Construction on the Guadalupe River, Blieders Creek, Dry Comal Creek, and Landa Street bridges will continue this month, and we’re gearing up for placing new concrete girders—which are basically bridge support beams—at the Gruene Road/Rock Street overpass. Crews also recently completed some paving work near River Road to California Boulevard. Drainage work is ongoing throughout the area, with some sections being recently completed.
Some other activities that you can expect to see us working on in the next few months include the installation of traffic signals at Hanz Drive, SH 46, Oak Run Parkway, and San Antonio Street, as well as performing entrance and exit ramp work at several locations including Gruene Road and Rock Street.
We understand construction can be tough on everyone. We’re happy to report that no safety issues have been reported at this time. TxDOT and the contractor are committed to minimizing impacts to travelers and traffic flow and we appreciate your patience and safe driving during this project.
