MAJOR CLOSURES PLANNED ON I-10 IN NORTHWEST BEXAR COUNTY THIS WEEK

 

Beginning this Tuesday, December 15, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is scheduled to perform major closures on I-10 in northwest Bexar County. The closures are expected to greatly impact traffic flow and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area. Details on the specific closures are listed below.

Tuesday, December 15 – 9:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.  

• Full closure of eastbound mainlanes from Ralph Fair Rd. to Dominion Dr.
• Full closure of eastbound entrance ramp just before Ralph Fair Rd. and exit ramp to Boerne Stage Rd.

Wednesday, December 16 – 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.

• Full closure of eastbound mainlanes from Dominion Dr. Camp Bullis Rd.
• Full closure of eastbound entrance ramp just before Boerne Stage Rd. and exit ramp to Dominion Dr.

Wednesday, December 16 – 9:00 p.m. to Thursday, December 17 5:00 a.m.

• Full closure of westbound mainlanes from Dominion Dr. to Boerne Stage Rd.
• Full closure of westbound entrance ramp just before Dominion Dr. and exit ramp to Boerne Stage Rd.
• Full closure of westbound exit ramp to Old Fredericksburg Rd.

All traffic will be detoured to frontage roads and law enforcement will provide traffic control at intersections.

These closures will allow crews to install wiring for digital message boards as part of scheduled work on the I-10 Expansion project. The project transforms the I-10 northwest corridor from four mainlanes to eight mainlanes by adding one general purpose lane and one HOV lane in each direction.

The I-10 Expansion project has a total estimated cost of $70 million. Construction began on the I-10 expansion project in 2017 and reached substantial completion in Fall 2020. Flatiron Construction is the contractor on the project.

 I-10 – Far East San Antonio/Bexar County/Seguin/Guadalupe County 

• Saturday December 12: All eastbound mainlanes closed between Loop 1604 and Pfeil Road from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to move barrier and shift traffic. Eastbound entrance ramp from LP 1604 will also be closed. DETOUR: All eastbound traffic will use the Graytown exit (Exit 589) and re-enter I-10 at the Pfeil Road on-ramp.
• Thursday, December 17. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Single mainlane closures and turnarounds, in both directions, at Foster Rd. bridge for painting operations.  
• Current until further notice. East and westbound I-10 frontage road traffic have right-of-way at Woodlake Parkway intersection. Woodlake traffic must stop before proceeding.
• Current until late November: Westbound I-10 exit ramp to Foster Road closed. DETOUR: Use Woodlake Parkway exit ramp.
• Current until early December: Westbound I-10 entrance ramp from Ackerman Road closed. DETOURS:
• Southbound Ackerman traffic can travel south under the I-10 overpass, use the eastbound frontage road to Foster Road, turn left on Foster, and take the westbound frontage road to the westbound entrance ramp just west of Foster.
• Northbound Ackerman traffic can use the eastbound frontage road to Foster Road, turn left on Foster, and take the westbound frontage road to the westbound entrance ramp just west of Foster.
• Current until further notice. Graytown Road bridge at I-10. DETOURS: Graytown Road traffic will use the frontage roads and the Pfeil Road underpass or Loop 1604 turnaround to cross I-10.

 FM 1976 – Walzem Road/Gibbs Sprawl Road

• Current until further notice. Daily 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Alternating southbound lanes between Woodlake Parkway and Gibbs Sprawl Road for barrier/pavement work (existing seven total lanes narrowed to three, with one in each direction and a two-way turn lane in the middle).
• Current until further notice. Full-day closure. Southbound lane between Toepperwein Road and Walzem Road for barrier setting work and road rehab work.

 SL 13 – S.W. Military Drive

• Current until Saturday, December 12. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alternating lane closures, in both directions, from Old Pearsall Rd. to Whitewood Rd. for pavement repairs.
• Friday, December 11 until Tuesday, December 15. Daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Single lane closures, in both directions, at Luke Blvd. for sidewalk improvements.

 Other Roads – Bexar County

• Cordoba Drive. Current until Sunday, December 20. Full closure of Cordoba Dr. from Loop 1604 northbound frontage road to Amistad Blvd. for paving operations.  

  RM 1376 – Kendall County

• Current until Saturday, November 21. 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Single lane closures, in both directions, from N. School St. to 0.5 miles past Wasp Creek Rd. for culvert work and roadway reconstruction.

 RM 337 – Bandera County

• Current until March 2021. Full closure of bridge at Mill Creek for bridge replacement.
