Beginning Friday, August 20 – 9 p.m. and ending Monday, August 23 – 5 a.m., I-10 will be closed from SH 46 to Scenic Loop Road as crews demolish the US 87 bridge.
This weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is scheduled to close
both directions of I-10 from SH 46 to Scenic Loop Rd. in Kendall County as
crews demolish the US 87 bridge.
In order to
safely remove the bridge, crews will need approximately 56 hours of continuous
full mainlane closures of both eastbound and westbound I-10 in Boerne. The
removal of this bridge will allow crews to start working on the new US 87
bridge.
The work is
scheduled to start on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 9 p.m. and is expected to be
completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021, weather permitting.
Detours:
· Westbound traffic. The westbound mainlanes will be removed at exit 542 Business US 87 and will be directed along the westbound frontage road to the next available entrance ramp prior to SH 46.
· Eastbound traffic. The eastbound mainlanes will be removed east of SH 46 and will be detoured along the eastbound frontage road. Drivers will be allowed to enter back onto the mainlanes just east of Scenic Loop Rd.
During this
closure, there will be no through traffic at Scenic Loop Rd. under I-10. All
traffic will be directed to turn right onto the frontage roads.
· Northbound traffic on Scenic Loop Rd. will be detoured to Balcones Creek intersection.
· Southbound traffic on Scenic Loop Rd. will be detoured to the SH 46 intersection.
Southbound
Main St/Business US 87 traffic will not be allowed to cross over I-10 and will
be directed to turn right onto the westbound frontage road to the SH 46
intersection.
These
closures are part of scheduled work on the I-10 Kendall Extension project. The project includes frontage road
and overpass improvements along I-10 from SH 46 to Fair Oaks Parkway in Kendall
County.
