Since the project to widen and reconstruct I-10 between I-410 and Loop 1604 began in fall 2018, our contractor has been focused primarily on the eastbound side of the corridor.
Crews initially constructed new pavement in the center median area and then switched eastbound traffic to this new pavement in summer/fall 2019 to allow for reconstruction of the outside eastbound mainlanes and shoulders.
With much of the eastbound mainlane work completed, crews are now focusing on the westbound side of the corridor.
During the first weekend of March, eastbound traffic was switched from the median area to the newly reconstructed outside eastbound mainlanes and shoulders from Woodlake Parkway to Loop 1604. This move was required to allow westbound traffic to be switched to the vacated median area the following weekend. This move allowed our contractor to begin work on the area’s outside westbound mainlanes and shoulders.
That brings us full circle to the present. Weather permitting since there are high chances of rain in the forecast, this weekend our contractor will continue the series of traffic switches required for westbound mainlane work by moving eastbound traffic to the outside mainlanes and shoulders from just east of WW White to Ackerman Road. This will set the stage for yet another future traffic switch moving westbound traffic to the vacated median area from Ackerman Road to just east of WW White.
Drivers will then get a slight break from traffic switches as our contractor completes final work on the eastbound side of I-10 between Ackerman Road and Woodlake Parkway. Once this work is complete – anticipated later this spring – the final traffic switches in this series will be implemented to move all westbound traffic to the median area.
As always, all planned traffic pattern changes and closures are weather permitting and subject to change.
