We are continuing to make headway on the FM 1560 (Hausman Road) expansion project between SH 16 (Bandera Road) and LP 1604.
As you may have noticed, work on the southbound side of the project is winding down and the contractor is shifting focus to the northbound side. In order to do so, traffic will be switched to the newly-paved lanes between Bandera and Magnolia Way.
The traffic switch will take place after rush hour on Monday (October 21) and will usher the long-term closure of the middle continuous left-turn lane (see illustration). That means two-way (no middle lane) traffic between Bandera and Magnolia Way.
We understand this move will likely cause an inconvenience but it's crucial that this measure be put in place for the timely completion of the project.
Taking into account the inconvenience, we've instructed the contractor to take all steps possible to at least accommodate folks who live along the work zone on Hausman who may be used to having that middle turn lane to access their subdivisions.
To avoid abrupt stops to traffic flow in keeping in mind these local residents, the contractor is maintaining designated left-turn lanes to the following subdivisions: Cedar Point, Helotes Trail and Magnolia Way.
Once the switch is complete, construction crews will have the necessary space to complete improvements to underground water and storm drainage networks, soundwalls, sidewalks and pavement on the northbound side of the roadway.
Remember, with each traffic switch we are getting closer to that finish line!
As always, we remind everyone that that this switch is weather permitting and subject to scheduling change.
