I-10 CLOSED AT SH 46 IN KENDALL COUNTY THIS WEEKEND

As part of the ongoing IH-10 frontage road construction the contractor is progressing into the next stage of construction which will require the realigning the I-10 mainlanes under SH-46 (Bandera Rd.) bridge.

The last stage of construction for the new SH-46 bridge will necessitate transitioning the I-10 mainlane traffic from their current location to the segment that is currently a work area closed to traffic.  The mainlane transition will place the eastbound mainlanes back in their natural configuration and the westbound mainlanes will be south of their existing orientation.

The transition is necessary to construct the second half of the SH-46 bridge while maintaining a safe passage for motorists and all construction personnel.

Work is scheduled to start on Friday AUGUST 19, 2022 at 9:00 pm and is expected to complete by 5:00 am on Monday AUGUST 22, 2022, weather permitting.

The westbound mainlanes will be reduced to one-lane then forced to use Exit 540 (SH-46/Bandera Rd). Westbound frontage road traffic will continue through the SH-46 intersection then back onto the mainlanes at the next available entrance ramp located near Fredricks Creek. Off-duty uniformed officers will control the traffic movement at the SH 46 intersection.

The eastbound mainlanes will be reduced to one-lane then forced to use Exit 540 (SH-46/Bandera Rd).  Eastbound frontage road traffic will continue through the SH 46 intersection than back onto the mainlanes at the next available entrance ramp located ¼ west of the US 87 interchange. Off-duty uniformed officers will control the traffic movement at the SH 46 intersection.

For safety reasons, the active bridge on SH 46 at IH 10 will be closed requiring all traffic to turn right onto the frontage roads.

  • Westbound SH-46 traffic will be detoured to westbound I-10, to the Johns Road intersection, and back to Exit 540 SH-46 (see westbound detour route exhibit).
  • Eastbound SH-46 traffic will be detoured the eastbound frontage road, onto the eastbound I-10 mainlanes, to Exit 543 Scenic Loop, where traffic will use the turnaround to reach the westbound frontage road into Boerne/Main St. (see eastbound detour route exhibit).

TRAFFIC SWITCH COMING TO I-10 AND SH 46 IN KENDALL COUNTY THE WEEK OF JULY 5TH

WHAT’S HAPPENING: The last stage of construction for the new BUS 87 bridge will necessitate transitioning the I-10 mainlane traffic from their current location to the segment that is currently a work area closed to traffic.  The mainlane transition will place the eastbound mainlanes back in their natural configuration and the westbound mainlanes will be south of their existing orientation.  This phase will require the temporary closure of the westbound entrance ramp from Scenic Loop.

The transition is to construct the second half of the Bus 87 bridge while maintaining a safe passage for motorists and all construction personnel.  The entrance ramp will also undergo construction to complete its final configuration that will include a longer merge lane for motorists entering I-10.

DETOUR: The westbound entrance ramp traffic will utilize the westbound frontage road, across the BUS-87 intersection (ALL-WAY STOP), then onto the next available entrance ramp near SH-46.

WHEN: The mainlane traffic switch will begin Tuesday July 5, 2022, at 9:00 PM, weather permitting. Multiple nights may be required to complete the work between the hours of 9 PM – 5 AM.
