New displaced left turn lanes on westbound FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) set to open on Feb. 7

The new partial displaced left turn lanes on westbound FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) at I-35 will be operational for the traveling public on Monday, February 7, 2022 by 11:59 p.m.

Drivers who wish to turn left on I-35 southbound from FM 306 westbound will no longer go straight, under the I-35 overpass. They will be navigated to the new two displaced left lanes beginning near the Whataburger and Panda Express. As part of the displaced left turn lanes, drivers can expect new traffic lights in the area.

For safety, police officers will be present for a few days to assist drivers as they adjust to the new configuration. The overall operational improvement project is expected to be completed the summer of 2022.

Upcoming Traffic Switch on FM 306 from Town Center Drive to I-35 Northbound Frontage Road

Construction crews will reconfigure the traffic lanes on Creekside Crossing (FM 306) between the I-35 northbound frontage road and Town Center Drive. I-35 exit and entrance ramps to be relocated at FM 2252 and FM 1103

On March 10, 2021, starting at 8:30 p.m. several ramp closures will be in place on I-35 between FM 2252/FM 482 and FM 1103 (Hubertus Road). Ramp closures are necessary so crews can build the new northbound exit ramp from I-35 to FM 1103 (Hubertus Road), along with the new southbound entrance ramp from I-35 to FM 2252/FM 482. Work will consist of constructing new ramps, retaining walls, drainage structures and pavement. The ramp closures will be in place for approximately two to three months. Completion of work is dependent on weather.

I-35 Northbound:
Closure - The existing entrance ramp at FM 2252/FM 482 to I-35 northbound will be closed.
Detour - To access I-35 northbound from FM 2252/FM 482:
  • Northbound traffic on I-35 at FM 2252/FM 482 will continue north on the frontage road.
  • Traffic can access the I-35 northbound entrance ramp just past FM 1103 (Hubertus Road).

I-35 Southbound:
Closure - The existing exit ramp at FM 2252/FM .482 from I-35 southbound will be closed.
Detour - To access FM 2252 (Hubertus Road)/FM 482 from I-35 southbound:
  • From I-35 Southbound, take Exit 178 (FM 1103/Hubertus Road).

Work on turnarounds at I-35 and FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) to start Dec. 6, 2020

What improvements are taking place?
The I-35 turnarounds at FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) in both the northbound and southbound directions will be closed starting Sunday, December 6 at 9 p.m. The turnaround closures will be in place for approximately two weeks to allow crews to construct drainage facilities, widen the turnarounds, and repave and restripe the turnaround lanes. Completion of work is dependent on weather.

Detours:
  • Southbound traffic on the I-35 frontage road will make a left turn at the signalized intersection at FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) to access I-35 northbound.
  • Northbound traffic on the I-35 frontage road will make a left turn at the signalized intersection at FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) to access I-35 southbound.
Please note: Two lanes will remain open on the I-35 frontage road in both directions from FM 306 (Creekside Crossing). There will be no change to current traffic patterns on FM 306 (Creekside Crossing) during this work phase.

I-35 Frontage Road Construction Expanding North in Comal County

We are extending the northern limit of the two- to one-way I-35 frontage road conversion in Comal County. Work for this conversion began Tuesday, Oct. 13. The new limit will move north to York Creek Road/FM 1102, with the southern limit remaining at Kohlenberg Road. The previous northern limit of the conversion ended at the bridge crossing at Watson Lane.

Appropriate signs, pavement markings and construction barrels will be utilized to guide traffic safely through the construction zone. Conversions began at the project onset in March 2020 with the speed limit dropping from 55 to 45 miles per hour.

Long-Term Northbound I-35 Mainlane Traffic Switch

The northbound Interstate 35 (I-35) mainlanes from Conrads Lane to south of Watson Lane will be shifted out onto temporary detour lanes with work beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 2. This traffic switch follows a similar operation completed on the southbound I-35 mainlanes that took place in August 2020.

For the traffic switch to occur, two northbound mainlanes will be closed to allow for crews to work on the transition. The traffic switch is scheduled to be complete the morning of Sunday, October 4. This detour will allow for the construction of new northbound I-35 mainlanes and the new overpass at the Parkway intersection which is scheduled to open at the end of 2021.
