CONSTRUCTION TO CLOSE MAJORITY OF I-10 AND I-410 INTERCHANGE IN EAST SAN ANTONIO STARTING THIS WEEKEND

Drivers traveling I-10 and I-410 in east San Antonio should gear up for major delays beginning this weekend and into next week. The I-10 and I-410 interchange on the city’s east side will close to continue building the eastbound I-10 to southbound I-410 flyover ramp. The closures will occur over the weekend and nightly throughout the following week and cause long delays.

Beginning Friday, August 11 at 8 p.m., workers will close all east and westbound lanes of I-10 and all northbound lanes of I-410. The work will occur throughout the weekend and into early Monday morning, August 14. The interchange will be open before morning rush-hour traffic.

Workers will then repeat the closure each night beginning Monday, August 14, through Thursday, August 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During the closures, traffic at the construction zone will be diverted to the frontage roads and other roadways. However, drivers are encouraged to avoid the work zone and find alternate routes, including I-35, I-37, and Loop 1604.

Construction zone detours include:

• Eastbound I-10 traffic will detour to southbound I-410, exit at Rigsby Ave., enter northbound I-410, and take the eastbound I-10 exit.
• Westbound I-10 traffic will detour to northbound I-410, turn around at Rittiman Rd., and continue on southbound I-410 towards the westbound I-10 exit.
• Northbound I-410 traffic will exit E. Houston St., continue on the frontage road, use the turnaround at Ackerman Rd., and re-enter northbound I-410 at the next available ramp.

The closures are part of TxDOT’s $100 million effort to build two new flyover ramps and make other needed transportation improvements at the I-10 and I-410 interchange. In addition to the flyover ramps, the project  also includes frontage road, drainage, and lighting improvements. Williams Brothers Construction Company, Inc., the project contractor, expects to complete the project in 2025.

The I-410/I-10 East interchange project is part of TxDOT’s Texas Clear Lanes initiative that aims to reduce congestion and improve safety on the most congested corridors in the state.

Motorists traveling Loop 410 in east San Antonio have a new way to connect to I-10 east. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced today that contractors opened the new northbound Loop 410 flyover ramp to eastbound I-10 early Monday morning, July 31. The opening of the flyover ramp is another big step to improve mobility and enhance safety along the east side corridor.

Northbound Loop 410 drivers will use the new flyover ramp to access eastbound I-10. Motorists wanting to access Ackerman Rd. can use the original exit or exit at E. Houston St.

The new northbound flyover ramp is part of TxDOT’s $100 million effort to improve the Loop 410 and I-10 east interchange. Workers will now focus on finishing the westbound I-10 flyover ramp to southbound Loop 410. When completed, the interchange will have two new flyover ramps, new turnarounds at Rigsby Ave. and Ackerman Rd., and frontage road improvements. Williams Brothers Construction Company, Inc., the project contractor, expects to complete the project in early 2025.

The interchange project is part of TxDOT’s Texas Clear Lanes initiative aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety in five of the state’s largest metro areas, including San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth.

I-410 – East San Antonio

• Friday, July 28 through Monday, July 31. FULL WEEKEND CLOSURE. All southbound and northbound I-410 lanes closed at the I-10 interchange from 8 p.m. Friday (7/28) thru 5 a.m. Monday (7/31). Detour: Southbound I-410 traffic will exit to westbound I-10, exit W.W. White, turn around at the intersection, continue on the frontage road, and enter I-410 at the next ramp. Northbound traffic will merge to the northbound I-410 connector and back to the I-410 mainlanes.
• Friday, August 4 through Monday, August 7. FULL WEEKEND CLOSURE. All eastbound and westbound I-10 lanes and all northbound I-410 lanes at the I-10 interchange closed from 8 p.m. Friday (8/4) thru 5 a.m. Monday (8/7). All northbound I-410 traffic detoured to Rigsby turnaround and back to northbound I-410. All east and westbound I-10 traffic detoured to the frontage roads and collectors. Southbound I‑410 lanes will remain open. Expect long delays. Seek alternate routes. 

PA 1502 – Wurzbach Parkway

• Current until Monday, July 31. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Alternating lane closures, in both directions from N.W. Military Highway to Weidner Rd. for roadway improvements.
• Sunday, August 6 until Friday, September 1. 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Various lane closures, in both directions, from N.W. Military Highway to Wetmore Rd. for paving operations. 

FM 1535 – Northwest Military Highway
